Any history of us aggressively pushing our beliefs on others?
Almost all of my in-laws are fundies.
I'm looking for the facts to use the next time I put my foot down.
Thanks

(111,329 posts)especially when they've felt they've been lied to for a long time and they're angry about it. They feel compelled to punch holes in a lot of belief systems and only manage to piss people off.
Tell your inlaws you'd rather enjoy them over the holidays than fight with them, so take religion, sex and politics off the table.

(1,383 posts)I have been in that phase for the past 10 years. Had to move 1800 miles from my fundie family. May be overkill though. I do miss them.
I put my foot down plenty of times but I always feel a little bad afterwards. What a world.

(9,356 posts)Article 37 of the Albanian Constitution of 1976 stipulated, "The state recognizes no religion, and supports atheistic propaganda in order to implant a scientific materialistic world outlook in people.",[32] and the penal code of 1977 imposed prison sentences of three to ten years for "religious propaganda and the production, distribution, or storage of religious literature."

That happened under the regime of Enver Hoxha, Maximum Leader of Albania from 1944 until his long overdue death in 1985.
And who popped up at Hoxha's grave in 1987 to pay her respects? That well-known militant atheist/Albanian dwarf Mother Teresa.
MT's groupies have a long list of reasons why she just HAD to suck up to the world's tyrants and oppressors. None of them very convincing IMO.
Edit to add: just noticed your avatar, Ernesto. Semper Fi!

(18,219 posts)with your in-laws. Try to convince them that your way is the only way. Push hard.
Then you can tell them that this is how you feel when they do it to you. Of course, it will probably make for a really pissed off family. I, personally, wouldn't do it because it doesn't matter that much to me to have fights with family over it. But if you feel the need, start there.
