A good example is adult lactose tolerance. The initial mutation occurred just north of the Black Sea among the Cucuteni Culture and their Proto-Indo-European speaking neighbors to the east in the late Sredny-Stog Culture, but very rapidly spread to fixation in almost every culture in Europe and Northern Asia reliant on milk-producing animals. This is because drinking animal milk is a much more efficient source of nutrition than simply slaughtering the animals for food.

These areas were so reliant on dairy because that far north primitive farming could not supply all the calories and nutrients needed, but herds of cattle and sheep thrived just fine.
