7.ZAPOTEC CIVILIZATION
While most people are familiar with the Maya of Mesoamerica and the Aztecs, the people called the Zapotec remain comparatively vague. Among the first individuals in the region to use writing and agricultural systems, additionally they assembled among the earliest recognized cities in North America–Monte Alban. Founded in the fifth century B.C., the city was residence to a maximum of 25,000 citizens and lasted for over 1,200 years.
