The comet will pass closest to Earth on 23 July
A comet has been captured on camera streaking across the skies over Stonehenge.
Comet Neowise has been spotted by stargazers across the UK and around the world as it heads past Earth.
It was discovered in late March and became one of the few comets in the 21st century that can be seen with the naked eye as it approached the sun.
The comet will be closest to the Earth on 23 July but will still be about 64 million miles (103 million km) away.

(17,384 posts)Comets don't "streak across the sky" like meteors. Rather, think of them as like small planets, hanging in the night sky with a plume coming out of them.
Yes, comets do move very quickly, but like planets you can't tell the movement except by comparing their position over several days and weeks.

(6,597 posts)Easily seen with 11x70 binoculars 50 minutes after sunset.
Eighty minutes later (after the sky darkened), the comet's tail was seven degrees long.
Absolutely stunning, and easily seen without the binoculars.
A must-see.
Seriously, it's a must-see - - so go take a look!
