NASA astronaut Christina Koch shot this image of moonrise at sunrise from the International Space Station. (Source: Christina Koch/NASA via Twitter)
I spotted this serenely beautiful photo of the crescent moon rising above the limb of the Earth at sunrise on Twitter. I was so taken with it that I just had to share it.
Its undated, but this stunning moonrise at sunrise photo was photographed recently by NASA astronaut Christina Koch from the International Space Station.
On Oct. 18, Koch made history with her fellow NASA astronaut Jessica Meir, when the two accomplished the first all-female spacewalk. They spent seven hours outside the space station, fixing a failed power controller.
As photographed by Koch, the blue luminous envelope of Earths atmosphere seems tenuously thin. This helps me grasp how we humans, a seemingly puny species, could actually alter the makeup of the atmosphere in a way that fundamentally alters the climatic life support system of our planet.

(22,656 posts)Fortunate to be connected to Ms. Koch through her alma mater, NCSSM, I am deeply moved by this.
I encourage everyone to take the time to read about her journey to become an astronaut. She's had a truly remarkable life, living in service, to the greater good.

(160,530 posts)Then, to learn she drove a motorcycle cross-country from North Carolina to Montana alone and even constructed her own Tesla coil..... How on earth did she manage to do so much already in her life?
She's working on setting new records with this space flight, it almost looks as if it won't end for a long time!
Good grief.
So glad you've contributed all this information. Thank you, so much.
She will be someone to watch and remember for a very long time.

(22,656 posts)One thing that just gets a brief mention is her completion of flight training. She learned to fly a jet plane, a T-38 to be exact, which is in itself a large achievement. Yet it barely gets a mention. I'm sure there's much more to come from this remarkable lady.
❤ Thanks again, Judi Lynn. ❤
