Great ball of fire! Incredible footage captures bright green meteor with an orange trail soaring across the sky over Buenos Aires

A BRIGHT green fireball with an orange trail soared through the sky over Argentina last night and the incredibly rare footage was captured on camera.

The occurrence took place over Buenos Aires and was the result of a meteor that entered the earth’s atmosphere at around 9pm local time.

The spectacular sight lasted for around 10 seconds and no injuries or problems were recorded by its presence, reported local daily newspaper La Nacion.



Dr Francisco Diego, Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University College London, said: ‘Our solar system still has lots of loose rocks and debris from its mother cloud.

What made it unusual was that it skimmed through the atmosphere and retained escape velocity.
