Some of you might be thinking of the Jetsons but this is for real! It's the Terrafugias TF-X concept flying car that is also a Hybrid and a street legal plug-in. Can you imagine lifting-up from a highway during rush hour traffic and flying away?!
The next TF-X will have four-seats, collapsible wings, retractable propellers and an emergency parachute system. The best part is, it will be capable of driving and flying on its own!
Terrafugias CEO Car Dietrich said, This is the right time for us to begin thinking about the future". We think he's right and wonder what type of license we will need to drive/fly one of these. We especially can't wait to try that "Vertical Takeoff and Landing"!

(1,005 posts)they failed to consult an aeronautical engineer. Not anywhere near enough lift surface for a vehicle of that weight.

(1,005 posts)I'll call them after their product arrives in showrooms. You know, like all the other flying cars that have filled the skies.

(41,833 posts)You give me this BIG STINK ABOUT how it doesn't work and act like you KNOW IT ALL but refuse to even call them and ask that one question that I can't answer Cause I am no, engineer but pass on the opportunity to learn something???
Pardon me, but I am guessing you have no interest in what they have to say. Maybe some of us would like to hear what you found out, but, oh who is kidding who?? You had no intention of calling them, because you got it figured out already. Maybe You might have heard an answer you wouldn't have liked, is that it?
Okay, well..I see where you are now.. have great day, okay?

(1,005 posts)but I do have a degree in aeronautical engineering. Maybe the laws of physics have changed since I graduated way back in 1972.
Beyond the laws of aerodynamics, there is so much more wrong with the concept of flying cars that most folks cannot conceive, including those who put these concepts out there. Just wait until Jeff Bezos and others have our skies filled with drones. You'll understand then. Oh, and I have practical experience, 40 years as an airline pilot and 43 years as a private aircraft owner. I think I have a pretty good feel for this stuff.

(1,005 posts)and for the foreseeable future. Dreamers have to strived to build a flying car for the masses since the early 20th century. Since that time we have gone to the moon but there still aren't any flying cars. There are just too many factors and variables to contend with from the standpoints of safety, traffic separation, weather, logistics and training.
