but what is the point of bringing back the wooly Mammoth? Just to say we can? Seems a bit cruel to the critter, since the world they lived in and were adapted for is long, long gone.

besides scientific curiosity, the only reason to revive a nammoth would be as a food source. And an impractical one at that.
