(Jewish Group) Man crying 'Allahu Akbar' tries to run into Berlin synagogue with knife

A man armed with a knife attempted to run into a synagogue in central Berlin Friday evening, German media reported Saturday.

The man, apparently a Syrian refugee, was tackled by security personnel at the entrance to the Neue Synagogue. According to the Bild website, he was heard calling out “Allahu Akbar” (“God is Great” in Arabic) and “Fuck Israel.”

German police said the man, identified as Murad M., was hit with pepper spray by guards and then subdued and disarmed.

Officials said he carried documentation identifying him as 23 years old, originating from Damascus and with a residency permit, which ends in December 2020.

The incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. according to Bild, likely shortly before the start of Friday’s evening prayer service.

Well, since he yelled "Fuck Israel" as he tried to enter a synagogue with a knife, this is, of course, nothing more than a "protest" and not anti-Semitism.

4) since you anticipated bullshit, my devil's advocate reflects on semantics of anti-Semitism, hating Jews, as opposed to hating Israel, the Jewish state. I do wonder if our cousins the Arabs would hate Jews if we didn't live next door. Some feel they hate the state of Israel, but would be ok with Jews living elsewhere; Arabs hate that the state exists, not Jews in general. But it was an act against Jews not in Israel, so I agree it was antisemitism.
5) Israel, in Hebrew Yisrael, refers to the geographical nation as well as (most) Jews. The term Jew comes from Judea, where the tribe of Judah (and some from other tribes) settled, while 10 exiled tribes were lost. The (12th) priestly tribe of Levi, which includes Levi's and Kohain's were preserved, as 2 groups. All Jews who are not Levi's or Kohain's are considered to be Yisrael or Israel.
6) I find it both sad and comforting that most if not all synagogues everywhere now have security or police protection at the door. I attend several synagogues and police are always visibly guarding the premises on holidays. They are also present at one synagogue every shabbat, whereas another synagogue has it's own rotating security detail every shabbat, members who are armed and guarding the door and monitoring who comes in. They are mostly former police or military, and their security detail has been in place for decades.

We are in our holy days season, which will end after simchat Torah on October 22nd. I hope and pray there will not be any incidents during this time, or that they will be stopped before causing any harm.
