50 Children
Just watched the HBO documentary about the rescue of 50 children from Austria in 1939. A couple from Philadelphia - Mr. and Mrs. Krause - just decided that they were going to try to take 50 children and bring them to the States.

One of the commentators commented what a good politician FDR was, was planning on helping Britain in its fight against the Nazis.. But rescuing Jews from Europe was not on his agenda. Yes, I do remember the St. Louis.
No matter how many Holocaust stories I watch - and I don't watch many - there is always a new powerful reminder of the evil that many did, reminding myself that I never want to visit either Germany or Austria.
An interesting comment at the end: the parents came to the train station to bid good bye to the children and they were told not to wave good bye. Jews were not allowed to raise their arms in the Nazi salute, and had they tried to wave, they would have been arrested.
I don't know if this will be shown again. I suppose Holocaust Memorial was a factor
