Independent ‘catholic’ church to debut

MANCHESTER — An independent catholic church will begin holding services here next month.

The Rev. Mickey Danyluk’s Sacred Hearted Independent Catholic Church will hold services for the first time on Sept. 21 at St. John the Baptist Polish National Catholic Church on Golway Street. It will host vespers on Wednesdays at 5:45 p.m., Chaplets of Divine Mercy on Fridays at 5:45 p.m., and Mass on Saturdays at 6 p.m.

Danyluk, who was ordained at the Church of the Good Shepherd in 1995, will bring the independent catholic tradition of the National Catholic Church to his new congregation.

Danyluk said his ministry is focused on the “unchurched,” or people who aren’t affiliated with a specific denomination and searching for a spiritual group.

The Polish National Catholic Church has had an interesting history since its founding in Scranton 129 years ago.
