Well that was scary.
We went to the 10 pm Mass tonight. Just as my 15 year old daughter got to the Eucharistic Minister for Communion, she passed out and collapsed. Fortunately, he's an MD and it kicked in. Somebody brought a glass of water. Another person brought some sugar packets. He kept talking to her and assessing her. Someone called an ambulance and by the time it arrived she had revived and was sitting in a chair. It looks like she just passed out from the heat, not eating and she was tired. The EMT didn't think it was a seizure and told us to keep an eye on her and call if we needed them.
On the way home I asked how she was feeling. She said better but still looked upset. I asked her what was wrong. She said about half a dozen friends from school were there and "I'll have to hear all about it when school starts up again." Then she looked annoyed and I knew she was better. She said, "It had to happen tonight. This is the only day of year the year they go."
Merry Christmas to all and hug your loved ones!

(11,573 posts)Glad your daughter's okay. If you're going to faint, right in front of a medic is the place to do it.

(82,333 posts)When Mass was over, the priest came over to see how she was. I told him we don't need Last Rites yet.

(463 posts)If you must pass out, in church, in front of an MD, and near your parents is not a bad place. There was probably more embarrassment than harm at that age. May you and yours have a merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

(1,370 posts)I have it and to quickly lie down when you feel it coming on stops it. It happens to me about once a year.
