So now a rosary is a fashion statement for teenagers?

For the past couple of years, I've seen teenagers wearing them as necklaces. Call me old-fashioned, but I don't like an important religious symbol with centuries of tradition behind it, being used that way.

It must now be kind of retro.

The nuns in my day wore rosaries. They wore them on the side of their habits, not around their necks.

Frankly, teens wearing them now doesn't bother me at all.

Some gangs use them as symbols the kids can wear everywhere, including school, because they're a religious symbol that cannot be prohibited. At least, that's what my gangbangers explained to me last year when I told them that rosaries aren't necklaces and shouldn't be worn as such.

I don't like it. It's not a necklace.

that. I wonder how far they can go with it being a religious symbol?

In Latin countries, they know and respect what the rosary is. They know it isn't just a fashion accessory. For the teens I see wearing them here, that is very doubtful.
