Today was my birthday.

I am now 65, an official senior citizen.

I had a good birthday. My husband gave me a lovely present. My oldest daughter came to visit, and we had a cookout. My son called me, too, and my brother.

My youngest daughter did not call, but she is on her way to Toronto, to see her husband. They cannot live together yet, until all the legal resident alien paperwork is taken care of.

I have a great family.

In the coming year, I would like to do more for others. I am not sure how to accomplish that. I do not care to do any more for my community, because I have been abused or misunderstood every time I have tried that. I live in a rather nasty small town. I am sure there are other ways to contribute. I will figure this out.

It sounds like you had a nice birthday and congratulations on turning 65! I turned 62 a few weeks ago, so I am right behind ya! Now you REALLY have the discounts that open up for you! Plus you are eligible for the big M.

Regarding your urge to contribute....do you have a soup kitchen you could volunteer at? Maybe finding out if the women's shelter needs clothing and taking collections from friends and neighbors. Even volunteering at the animal shelter and see if you can love on some lonely dog or cat who could use some brushing while receiving all that love.

I turned 65 on August 23.

Just in case you haven't already signed up for Medicare, do so immediately, even if just part A. A lot of people think it's automatic, but it's not. You have to sign up.

I have A, B, and D.

It is a great relief. For the last year, I was paying a lot of money every month for my state's ICHIP program. I thank President Obama that I had insurance at all, because I have a preexisting condition.

and many happy returns. It sounds like you had a lovely day. I'm sure you will find the right place to volunteer your services. There are so many in need.

Congratulations on having a lovely day to celebrate it!

OneGrassRoot has a great site, and there are lots of crowdfunding opportunities ....I find that the older I get the better it seems to me to be doing things in writing rather than personally or verbally. I seem to get misunderstood myself! I like being able to go back and look at what I wrote when there are misunderstandings still, so I can see what might have caused the confusion.

Enjoy the security of Medicare!!!!!

Glad to hear it was a good day--may the following years be full of joy!

Just a reminder, knowing you live here in Illinois, make sure you get the Senior Homestead Exemption on your house, if you don't already have it in place. The property tax code here in Illinois offers two exemptions for folks over 65. One is that Senior Exemption that is for anyone over 65 living in their own house, the other is income based, and it's called the Sr. Freeze. Ask about that one when you file your other paperwork--ok? It will save you some money on your property taxes. Call your assessor or the county assessor's office and have them send your the forms or else take a trip in to see them!
