Banned Books Week: 10 Challenged Books that Are Probably Still in Your Child’s School Library

This week (Sept. 30 through Oct. 6) marks the 30th anniversary of Banned Books Week. According to theAmerican Library Association, the majority of book complaints are initiated by parents, with books found in school libraries challenged most frequently.

As we look back at 30 years of book banning, here are 10 books that have been challenged in the past, but can probably still be found in your child's school library.

1."Harry Potter" by J.K. Rowling. The series about a boy wizard has been targeted by Christian schools and parents. In 2006, a Georgia mom initiated a challenge against the popular books, calling the series "evil" and saying that it glorified the Wicca religion.
