The origins of neopaganism and Prof. Ronald Hutton

Sunday, 1 July 2012The origins of neopaganism and Prof. Ronald Hutton
Neopaganism is a modern movement that is inspired by and/or seeks to reconstruct the ancient pagan religions of Europe and other parts of the world.

Many modern pagans are reconstructionists - people who are consciously engaged in reviving pagan traditions (from ancient Greece and Rome, the Germanic countries, the Celtic countries or elsewhere) without making any claim that their religion is a direct lineal survival from past times. Many others don't much care about the historical origins of their faith, viewing the origin-stories of Wicca and other traditions as myths and metaphors rather than literal truth.

Unfortunately (Or perhaps Fortunately) I'm going to have to read it again later. Late afternoon heat and all, my head hurts too much to truly digest it all.

Where do you find all the good stuff?

Sir, have you ever tried acupressure for your headaches?

It used to help me relieve my migraines. Can be learned from books, or online, not expensive, and relief is as close as your own fingers. My personal preference is to use a crystal or gem stone with a nice point on it. Works better than my crummy fingernails.

I also found applying pure essential peppermint oil to my temples helped, and the sinus areas around my eyes (I am sure you'd be careful to avoid getting the oil in your eyes). Then, lie down and sleep, with blessed relief.

Or, if you know someone who can Pow Wow for you (old Pennsylvania German healing techniques), perhaps that might help?

Oh, and ice packs, applied to the worst headache area, those used to help.

I know what misery migraines can be. I am so glad mine stopped when my red moon cycles stopped.

I wish you relief! Bright blessings!

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/wellbeing/7220734/Tapping-therapy-curing-physical-and-mental-problems.html

<snip>
These therapies claimed that our bodies contain invisible energy pathways – meridians – and identified hundreds of acupoints at junctions along these interconnecting highways. They can be disrupted by life's vicissitudes; in extreme cases, resulting in not only mental but also physical problems.

EFT works by a person tapping on just nine of these acupoints, while speaking aloud. And this is where it becomes a little weird. Working in pairs we identify a minor physical ailment and repeat the phrase, "Even though I have this sore knee / headache / lack of energy, I deeply and completely accept myself," while tapping on the meridian points: the soft part of the hand beneath the little finger, crown of the head, around the eyes, beneath the nose, the chin, near the clavicle and beneath the armpit. I just about resist the urge to "ooh ooh" like a monkey
<unsnip>

I've heard a lot of good things about tapping.

I've seen posts on tapping before, but didn't check them out. They sounded maybe kind of too new-agey for this earth religion gal...but maybe I should check them out. It sounds like it would work.

I have used cranial sacral therapy (from my chiropractor) for migraines, back when I was still having them. That DOES work. It was amazing. So, there probably is benefit to the tapping therapy, as well.

Cranial sacral therapy says that the bones of our skull pulse with a regular rhythm. The rhythm can be disrupted by illness, trauma, etc. Cranial sacral therapy restores healthy functioning by restoring the rhythm.

Thanks for the post.

I have used some things that sound similiar, but this is something I will look into. I'll also ask my dad if he has tried it (We have the same problems).

I have done some acupuncture with some benefits and I still use some acupressure almost daily with varying results.

Unfortunately my migraines are some of the worst several of my past neurologist have seen. We've traced it back several generations and have found that it gets worse each generation (which is why I won't have kids - I could never forgive myself if I passed this on). My dad had to medically retire after practicing trial law into his late 40's. I didn't make it past grad school. We've used and tried a ton of different things over the years with varying degrees of success (Some stuff was really weird and obvious gimmicky, but we still hope).

The peppermint oil doesn't work for me. One of my side effects of the headaches is 'super' senses. The peppermint oil along with other oils end up overwhelming me and end up making it worse, even when diluted a great deal. I used to make some of my own scented candles which worked because I could make sure not to make the scent too strong. I have a big problem with crowds as I end up not being able to filter out all the different conversations people are having along with the various kinds and amounts of perfumes/deodorants/etc.

As I type this I have an ice pack like head band cinched around my temples.

I still thank you for the concern and if you ever see anything 'new' even if wacky please pass it on. (no self-trepanning instructions please, I would be tempted to try on some days)

A lot more than mine, even though one did put me in the hospital last year. I sure hope that we can figure out a way to ease your suffering my friend.

We used to do the hospital thing but going in every couple of days was/is not practical. For the longest time our Dr gave us injectables so we could just deal with it ourselves. Unfortunately that is frowned on by the medical community and our Dr. was forced to retire and give up his license (even though he hadn't done anything illegal). Since then we have to make do with what our current Dr's are willing to give us. It is one reason why we are always on the lookout for new things to try, so if you do see anything, even if it is really weird, I'd love to know so as to look into it.

I wish I knew something that would help you, Tyrs. The conditions you experience sound completely miserable.

May Freya send you the blessing of healing.
