Judge to rule on whether yoga tied to religion

2 hours ago • Associated Press

A judge is expected to issue a ruling on whether yoga is a religious practice that shouldn't be allowed to be taught in public schools.

San Diego Superior Court Judge John S. Meyer is scheduled to decide Monday on the case stemming from a lawsuit filed by a family angry over the public school program in the beach city of Encinitas.

Their attorney Dean Broyles argued during the non-jury trial that the twice weekly, 30-minute classes are inherently religious, in violation of the separation between church and state.

The Encinitas Union School District is believed to be the first in the country to have full-time yoga teachers at every one of its schools.

any more religious than any other Phys. Ed type shit they do at school. It has no gods, temples/churches, dogma, rituals or any of the things that make up a religion.

there are many public programs that run yoga, and also tai-chi, which could be thrown under the same bus.

I think it's as religious as eating bread and wine together, unless youre doing it with the intention of worship, its not really religious.

I do find myself saying "Oh My God!" when trying to get into certain positions.

It originated as a religious practice, but hatha yoga as practiced now can hardly be seen as such.
