Related: About this forumHow do you observe your Sabbath?
Sunday is my Sabbath day and I go to church and go out and drink with my friends from church. Sometimes I go to church and then come home to just rest.
I wonder do many of you make use of the sabbath? For non-believers do you have a rest day?

(43,890 posts)And observant Christians on their way to church on Sunday.
And I would salute observant Muslims on the way to their mosques on Fridays, if there were any of them I could see.
But there are so few of them among us.

I highly recommend you see them.

(115,686 posts)I don't observe any religious sabbath, or any religious anything, for that matter. Sunday is like the other days, except that I go to a nearby coffee shop to read the Sunday paper, do the crosswords and have a good cup of coffee.

No Vested Interest
(5,166 posts)Sunday, late morning.
Being of the senior variety, convenience of hours is important to me, so I often attend at a neighboring parish rather than my own parish. I'm usually on my own at these outings, except when out-of-town son is visiting, when he accompanies me.
Frequently chat with other church-goers afterward - sometimes at a fellowship offered by the parish. This social function is an extra reward to me for continuing the effort to attend weekly.
Often make a stop at a pharmacy, grocery, or drive-through eatery (for bagel or tacos) which I take to a nearby park, eating while relaxing & taking in the beauty and activity all around.
If I have household chores to do, I do them on the Sabbath, knowing that the Lord understands that my energy level is limited and must be spread out over the whole week to accomplish what's necessary

(6,182 posts)Usually light the shabbat candles, say hamotzi, kiddush, and have a family dinner. Saturday morning I go to shul to shmooz with other congregants about a Jewish topic and that is about it.

Then a hike, or a nap (lay activities), or a drive. When I was younger we often did some type of outreach/community service. Some Sabbaths we (our church) provides meals for The Table, an effort to provide meals for those in the larger community who are in need.
The local Presbyterian church provides the kitchen/dining facilities, and the various local denominations take turns providing the meals.

(28,581 posts)Most practicing Wiccans have something called a full moon ritual once a month, either with a small group or solitary.

(28,581 posts)Some people are part of a small group called a coven. Generally this is less then a dozen people.
Some people attend larger groups at places like a UU church.
Many are solitary and practice alone in their homes by choice or necessity.
The rituals differ depending on what Tradition of Wicca is being practiced. Some are secret, others you can find templates of online. There really are a great variety of styles involved.
Some groups have shared theirs online, like at : http://www.paganlibrary.com/rituals_spells/
But it is a little more involved then just reading through. Each part/item person has specific meanings that may not be obvious on the written page. Every color/scent/movement/tone has meaning. We are very much a teacher to student sort of religion. There is no main authority. Each coven is autonomous. Once a student reaches a certain point in their training they can "hive off" to form their own group. At that point their teacher becomes their equal within the tradition. Within a coven you have a High Priestess and possibly a High Priest and then members of various others stages/degrees of learning from new to long time members.
It's very different from the type of format found in the other major religions.

(71,265 posts)But as I said you religion always interested me. I am not looking to practice but to understand it. I like the fact that it seems fairly equal and does not have any hang-ups.
As a teen I had some friends who were Wiccan and we used to pray together and it always seemed to work.
