1. Lawyer facing child pornography charges taken into FBI custody at Manchester courthouse

A Manchester lawyer was taken into custody by FBI agents this morning as she awaited a court hearing on charges of possessing child pornography.

Lisa Biron was scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. probable cause hearing at Manchester’s district court. But before the hearing began, she was taken out of the courtroom and into an adjacent conference room. After several minutes Biron was brought out in handcuffs and quickly taken through the courtroom’s back door.

Outside, 43-year-old Biron ducked her head below the backseat window of a white vehicle as it was driven away from the courthouse.

Kieran Ramsey, a special agent at the FBI’s New Hampshire office, confirmed that Biron was taken into custody by agents from his office and the Manchester Police Department. He called it a “court-authorized action” but directed other questions to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. A request for comment made with that office was not immediately returned this morning ...

The evil, hypocrisy, the lies... Is humanity ever so twisted and filthy in soul and purpose as when it hides under the cloak of religion? It kind of maked me wonder if there's hope for humanity at all...

the "antidote" to the crimes and "sins" they themselves commit, constantly.

How familiar is the formula of this story? Very. Textbook. I must admit I'm taken aback by a woman doing this, but maybe I'm naive, or obviously I am.

How could anyone, today, not understand that many of those who take up the cloak of invincibility forged for years by any institution that punished questioners about its infallibility are not infallible? If not completely criminal?

Where is the devil's most effective hiding place? I mean, damn.

But, "the last place you'd look" is usually where you find stuff. Suggest starting there next time. Common sense.

5. The Alliance Defence Fund are vile.

They have been helping to fund Christian Concern's 'Wilberforce Academy' annual conferences in Oxford. All I ever needed to make my life complete was the Christian Right operating right in my bloody backyard; I had thought that I was 3000 miles east of that sort of thing. The third time that they had their meeting in Exeter College, Oxford, the students and others noticed and complained, so Exeter College will vet their applicants more carefully next time. (British universities depend on the money they get for renting out space for conferences in the vacations; but there should be limits!)

Christian Concern's version of events:

And the Oxford student newspaper's version:

Some people were onto this a bit earlier:

Apart from this particular example, the Christian Legal Centre, which has links with this group, is a real pain though not super-successful; most often known for defending the rights of homophobes to discriminate against gays.
