Being a Liberal carries a personal responsibility!!!

To help those who can't help themselves

The Democratic Party

the Party of Personal Responsibility

"For everyone to whom much is given, of him shall much be required." -- Luke 12:48 Is this verse in The Conservative Bible?

How about the 25th Chapter of Matthew is that in their Bibles?

Matthew 25:31-46
New International Version (NIV)
The Sheep and the Goats

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

1. Being a liberal carries personal responsibility, because the bible says so?

Is that what you are saying? I'm unclear on just what you are getting at.

3. The religious right wears a brand of christianity that is unrecognizable at times.

I was stunned at the degree of religiosity at the republican convention, but it was the stark contrast between that and their actual platform that really blows me away.

having lived in the South and the Midwest they have been this way for some time! There were hints of this in the 70's and it blossomed in the 80's.

9. rexcat has a good point that you are trying to dismiss by feigning umbrage.

How could anyone, at this point, be "stunned at the degree of religiosity" of today's Republican party?

Seriously, this is just now surprising you?

If you think the brand of republican christianity is unrecognizable all I am asking is where have you been. Their brand as been around for a long time and in the open. It started in the 70's and came to full fruition in the 80's. This brand is alive and well in San Diego, CA; Colorado Springs, CO; Seattle, WA; the entire South and the Midwest. They have been active in the republican party since the Regan years. Anyone surprised with this has not been paying attention but that might be the prospective of an atheist since we may be more sensitive to these issues.

12. Where exactly was the insult?

Seriously, I would really like to know what precisely was so damn personally offensive to you in that post. This seems to be a strategy of yours, a way to "win" by becoming so outraged at what you claim someone said that you can be furious at them, storm off, and not have to address any point they made.

(Yes, I realize you won't respond to this because you already passed that point with me and don't acknowledge any of my posts anymore, but others should be aware of this dishonest tactic, and judge whether it's worth trying to voice an opinion that differs from yours.)

I just have to comment - your style is very noticeable.

Trotsky is right. There is nothing - nothing - nothing - personal in what Rexcat wrote. As usual, you dodge the meaty questions and use dishonest tactics to end debate. It is very glaring. Step back once and take a look.

Aren't you a host or something here? Why do we have such a person as some kind of authority figure?

It's been pointed out by certain believers in this group that quoting bible verses to support a position means you are a literalist, no different than the fundamentalists.

Growing up in the south in the 60s and 70s, I didn't see the hypocritical actions/inactions, as I matured, my eyes were opened.

The Republican "party of God" is really the "party of the Old Testament" - it's like the existence of Jesus and His teachings do not exist. It's like I've said to a friend, there are no astericks.... give to the poor, *only if they deserve it, do not kill, *unless there's oil under the ground...

As a liberal Christian, I have no issue with these passages or others than stand in stark contrast to public policy the gop is spewing. I try to be nonjudgmental and gentle, but as the Book says, "there are none as blind as those who will not see"

But yes, I feel it's important to let others know that many people who call themselves Christians do not agree with the extreme nature of the televangelists, fundies, etc. We are perfectly able to live under the US Constitution and not feel threatened by other faiths or those that do not believe.
