(735 posts)Mormons are by and large very nice, tolerant people.I grew up in Arizona which has a very large LDS population.
I am never rude to any religion's people when they come to my door,I tell them I am agnostic and that generally takes the wind out of their sails. But I have had some awesome theological discussions with LDS members.
They are very curious about others religions and NEVER have I felt judged by them.
I don't like Mitt Romney, but NOT because he is Mormon.

(2,289 posts)Now, as to the two Mormons - You should have smiled and told them to come back in half-an-hour to forty five minutes. That you could then "Take good care of them" at that point. You could have also added something like "I just need to finish who I'm with" and "I'll show you two a real good time."

(146,218 posts)And other than the occasional missionary, none have tried to convert me to their church.
I have seen missionaries all over the world, including in some very inhospitable places.
If you get a chance to see Book of Mormon (the musical by Matt Stone and Trey Parker), don't miss it.
Although they riff pretty mercilessly on Mormons, in the end the message is fairly positive about people of faith who use it for positive things. What they tear apart is the hypocrisy.

They did do lots of chores for her . . .

Sounds like it might have been a win/win in your mother's case. They are often homesick, I hear.

They were also around a LOT when her 95 year old mother was dying.

(5,057 posts)Don't let their fresh scrubbed faces fool you. The Mormon church feeds its members a steady diet of fear, guilt, and shame. Dues paying members can smile to your face and slip a knife in your back faster than any other cult you can name.
There is nothing mainstream - or remotely Christian about the multimillion dollar Amway scheme.

(23,156 posts)LDS people are nice, polite, and friendly. But like almost all believers, they are certain they have a lock on the truth, and secretly despise those who don't believe as they do.

It's called recycling.
