The Foundation Beyond Belief is a "charitable foundation created to focus, encourage, and demonstrate humanist generosity and compassion." Embodying the humanist belief that charity is good in and of itself, and need not be accompanied by proselytism, the 501(c)(3) has become a powerhouse for philanthropy in the secular community.
In 2012, the Foundation has taken on the ambitious project of raising $1 million to fight cancer by becoming a special partner with the The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for their Light the Night Walks. Secular philanthropist Todd Stiefel has pledged dollar for dollar matching funds up to $500,000, so this event marks a tremendous opportunity for secularists to get the most out of their charitable donations.
For the week of July 7th through the 14th, there are even more reasons to get involved. According to a press release from the FBB:
In addition, every person who is signed up for a team by July 14th will have their name put in for a drawing to win a Kindle Fire. This includes people who have already registered for a team prior to Registration Week.
There is also a promotion just for team captains! The team captain who gets the most number of new members signed up to their team during the Registration Week a $50 American Express gift card!

(41,210 posts)There are some great religious ones like Christian Aid, Tzedek and Islamic Relief; but most charities are neither religiously nor explicitly secularly driven.
The Leukaemia and Lymphoma Foundation in the UK is not religious in its origins:

(don't know how relevant that link is to the thread, but I support the charity so like to link to it)

(13,029 posts)Because anything involving any sort of criticism of your posts, anything even remotely implying that they are not Practically Perfect in Every Way, can never be of any value to anyone.
Are you really this desperate for approval of your agenda here? Do you not notice that you're the ONLY one here who does this? Well, ok...with one obvious exception...

(41,210 posts)And I think it's an excellent thing that humanist groups are demonstrating the falsity of the 'only religious people can be charitable' theory - which, however, is not very dominant in the UK.
