Secular Woman Inc, the first national organization for atheist, humanist, and non-religious women

Secular Woman Inc. is the first national organization for atheist, humanist, and non-religious women and they just launched their website called Secular Woman.

On June 28, 2012, Secular Woman Inc made its debut as the first organization for atheist, humanist, and other non-religious women. The organization’s vision is "a future in which women without supernatural beliefs have the opportunities and resources they need to participate openly and confidently as respected voices of leadership in the secular community and every aspect of American society."

"With this organization we plan to focus on promoting the secular female voice, but anyone who supports our mission can join," said Bridget Gaudette. "All are vital to the success of Secular Woman and to the overall secular movement."

The leaders and co-founders of the organization are Brandi Braschler, Vice President of Programs; Bridget Gaudette, Vice President of Outreach; and Mary Ellen Sikes, Vice President of Operations. These four women make up the board of directors and bring more than 40 years of Secular and women’s rights activism experience to the organization.

From the statistics I have seen, they are a significant minority within the broader group. Having their own organization should help address some of those issues surrounding privilege that are so important within any movement.

Look at the positive reception they are getting from male non-believers - the acknowledgment in the community that this is an issue and deserves attention.

Then look at the Vatican crackdown on the American nuns.

Churches would do well (again) to model themselves and their morality after secular organizations.

I hope this becomes a major movement.

Women everywhere may be wise to look into such organizations. Women have always paid more for and got less from religion than men. (At least--since the final destruction of the temples of Isis.)

It isn't written in stone anywhere that it should be that way. Or better said--it's just a fable that that ever was written in stone.
