Researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) constructed an astonishing portrait of God himself based on a survey of 511 American Christians.
The psychologists questioned a group of devout Christians to find out how they envision the face of God in their minds.
The surprising results of the study found God is not the archetypal bearded old man from Michelangelos paintings in the Sistine Chapel.
Instead, most people questioned seemed to think God looks like a young Caucasian man.
The article doesn't say, but I'm guessing the "devout Christians" they questioned there in North Carolina might have been white menfolk. You think? "Damn! That there looks like Beau, from over in Foxboro."
"And then, men created God. In their own image created they him."

(42,641 posts)It amazes me that some progressive Democrats are so quick to attack faith, when faith is such an important part of the lives of so many progressive Democrats.

(4,031 posts)..."faith" has nothing to do with self identifying as a member of a progresive democratic caucus. I.e. there is no "faith" test to be progessive or democratic.
And that is something that can't honestly be said for the red team.

(42,641 posts)Unless you claim is that there is no progressive who is progressive because of faith.

(9,116 posts)Political ideology is largely determined by one's immediate peer group. Faith may reinforce those political positions, but I'd be really fucking surprised if it informed them.

(146,338 posts)It's funny. You laugh at it, if you possess a sense of humor. My op had nothing to do with "faith." It had to do with a silly experiment to see how people visualized God.
Now, I could have shown the representation of God's buttocks as painted on the Sistine Chapel's ceiling. Even then, people had a sense of humor about such things. Here is that depiction of God mooning Moses:

(146,338 posts)one in which I mentioned faith. There are a couple of those in the group's thread list. Faith was not even mentioned in this OP.
Perhaps he meant to reply to this thread:

(5,658 posts)We've known exactly what Jesus looked like since about 400 AD, what with all the portraits floating around. God doesn't look like his father, though, just sayin'.

In NC, they may liken God's image to Billy Ray Poole down the road a piece.
