I have faith, he said.

Faith trumps your facts. Faith is all I need, he said. With faith I can be certain of the hope that things are as I think they are. Faith is my truth. It is beyond questioning, he said.

OK, then. Real good, then, I said, and walked away...

There are many things I don't understand well. If I want to understand them, I do some research and arm myself with information from trusted sources. I don't use faith. That's just a way of putting understanding off or dismissing the unknown thing.

Maybe you could give me an example of something that looks like an "abyss of ignarance." I can't think of anything like that.

As weird as it may sound, faith is a method of defining reality, just as witnessed experience is a method of defining reality.

However...

What happens when faith encounters a threat that it cannot ignore and explain away?

What happens to faith when reality demands its due?
