Related: About this forumThe evangelical support for Trump reminds me of a specific chapter in the Bible.
When Jesus came to the temple, and he saw that the money-changers were doing business there, he grabbed a whip and got on a rampage and beat them out of there.
Because they had turned the temple, a place of God, into a mundane place of greed and business.
The Evangelicals have done the exact opposite with Trump.
Instead of protecting their faith against corruption, they are willing to compromise and to overlook all kinds of sins big and small for the sake of political wins.
When the impious business-man came to the temple to corrupt it, the Evangelicals didn't throw him out. They made room for him in the temple and welcomed him for the mundane rewards his dealings would bring.

(10,885 posts)It is only about the Supreme Court.
Justices that believe in forced birth and religious freedom to discriminate against gays.
It truly does Trump everything else.

(2,091 posts)Trump is almost the caricature of someone who is NOT Christian.
If Obama had said or thought even a fraction of what Trump has.....these same evangelicals would be in the streets with pitch forks in their hands!
I can understand if it were just a few "issues" with Trump....but with Trump....time after time, he epitomizes the opposite path that Jesus wanted us to follow.
The money changer analogy is apt. Another would be that these evangelical leaders are selling their soul for a handful of silver coins a la Judas.

(36,827 posts)Organized religion is inherently corruptible. It takes advantage of the weak minded and convinces them god is on their side. Once that simple task is complete, the sky is the limit.

What has changed???
That he can't fuck around anymore?

(13,109 posts)their theocratic objectives. Trump is doing exactly what any Republican president would be doing for them and in exchange he gets their unwavering support. His sinful behavior is forgiven. Besides many of them are Calvinists and for them predestination has already selected who goes to heaven.
Arent we supposed to not criticize or worse, mock religious beliefs? I swear to the gods I keep reading that here.

Jesus curses a fig tree for not producing figs out of season. A pretty Trumpian thing to do.
