Related: About this forumDeeply-indented subthreads in discussion threads are rarely relevant, I think.
That's what I've noticed, anyway. In most cases, they are safely ignored, and contain little that applies to the topic of a thread. That applies pretty broadly to every discussion forum I've ever participated in. The deeper the indents, the less is communicated that involves the original subject of the discussion.
That's just an observation, really. It's a meta-observation, but is not exclusive to this discussion area, nor does it apply to any members here in particular.

Sometimes, I wish for a tool on discussion forums that lets one ignore all posts deeper than a certain indentation level. Were I the creator of discussion forum software, I think I'd include that option for participants.
Hide all posts beyond level n of indentation. Set n = ___

(9,116 posts)...if you could write a program that automatically hides any post containing the phrases "you have no proof God doesn't exist", "where you there", "it is better to exist than not to exist", "the Inquisition never killed anyone", or the words "Kardashian" and "Jenner", you'd be a wealthy man.

And smart people bring additional insight. Past a few indentions, theres often no more new information, or not enough to wade through the contrarian opinion part.
