(146,325 posts)one must check the breaker or install a new bulb. These days, I'm installing LED bulbs, thanks to solid-state scientists. Their light is indeed good, and reliable for many years to come.

(5,628 posts)We have a tendency to think that light has a source that is detectable, and a speed that is measurable. That doesn't square up, however, with the creation story in Genesis. We find there that light was created on the first day, but with no source given. Then we had days and nights until day four, when the sun was created.
So we're used to light having a source, but apparently it's not necessary. Not only that, according to the Institute for Creation Research, the light from the stars reached the earth in two days, so our speed calculations are a bit off as well.
Of course, no matter how you measure it light travels really fast. Muhammed Ali once said:
"I'm so fast that last night I turned off the light switch in my hotel room and was in bed before the room was dark." -
