All too often, we hear from people who argue that faith in a deity, based on no evidence at all, is superior to explanations of things that are driven by scientific evidence. I find that remarkable, really.
On one hand, we hear this: "God exists. I have faith that it is true. God is the great Creator, who created everything by speaking it into existence. God did it. That's that, and all about it."
On the other hand, we have this: "The Universe functions based on physical laws, many of which we can demonstrate to be true through experimentation. Other laws have mathematical proofs, but await further research for physical evidence. We have made great strides in understanding the Universe in just a short time. More understanding is on the horizon."
I don't know. I think I'll go with the evidentiary stuff.

(4,407 posts)Just speaking in terms of semantics, proof and faith are mutually exclusive. If a person truly has faith, then by definition, that person would need no proof.
I personally don't have a judgment as to which is superior (faith or proof) other than to say there is always more than one way to determine "superiority." Perhaps it is not an objective thing at all; perhaps the answer is subjective depending which serves the individual better.

(1,481 posts)or proposition is true or valid. I am on a journey. As a finite being, I do not know what I do not know. I value wisdom, a trait that is, IMHO, overshadowed by more "practical" attributes. Along our journey, we are constantly evolving as does the evidence associated with our evolution. Is faith superior to evidence? TBD.
