(12,858 posts)The WaPo has an article on the fight over the resolution. The resolutions
committee refused to bring the original strong and blunt resolution to the floor.
Only after social media erupted did the leaders of the SBC work out a new
resolution that passed.
See bilgrimage blog for several links to the controversy that forced the eventual
passage. Blogger is a former SBC member ĺiving in Arkansas. The link to youtube
video of Rowland Martin"s interview with the black minister who presented
the first version of the resolution is interesting.. and sobering.
See also the blog The Wartburgwatch for discussion of this year's convention
and some background to the SBC's history with racism. One of the bloggers is
a former SBC member, the other is still a member. Both live in NC. Many of the
commenters are either former or present SBC members from many states.
Some very interesting stories.

(7,886 posts)I'm glad that some groups are stepping up to change things, but there's a lot to make up for. Centuries of abuse and oppression can't be wiped away just by making nice overtones.
