In 1992, 12% said "Not very important". In 2016, 25% said "Not very important".
"Are you a member of a church or synagogue?"
In 1992, 29% said "No". In 2016, 44% said "No".
"Is religion out-of-date?"
In 1994, 21% thought so. In 2016, 33% thought so.
Out of those who are dissatisfied with organized religion, how many want organized religion to have less influence?
In 2001 it was 12%, in 2017 it is 23%.
"How much confidence do you have in church or organized religion?"
In 1973, 43% had very much confidence, 7% had very little.
In 2016, 20% had very much confidence, 24% had very little.
"Do you believe in God?"
1967: 1% said No.
2016: 10% said No.
"Do you blieve in God or a universal spirit?"
1994: 3% said No.
2016: 9% said No.

(57,349 posts)Holy texts are the original fake news. Modern day right wing religious zealots are still using them to vilify the 'other' and to foment hatred and bigotry. It's time for humanity to move on to something less barbaric. We need to learn from the past instead of repeating it.
