Catholic Church's Top Exorcist Dies at 91; Priest Claimed to Send 160,000 Demons Back to Hell

http://www.christianpost.com/news/catholic-churchs-top-exorcist-dies-at-91-priest-claimed-to-send-160000-demons-back-to-hell-169715/

Father Gabriele Amorth, the Catholic Church's top exorcist who claimed to have sent 160,000 demons back to hell, has died in a Rome hospital at the age of 91.

...

Amorth, who headed the International Association of Exorcists, said in 2013 he would ask Pope Francis to allow all priests the right to do exorcisms without the church's approval. He explained that he was inspired to make the request after watching the pope perform what he insisted was an exorcism on a man "possessed by four demons" in St. Peter's Square.

An 84-page update of exorcism rites compiled in 1614 and drawn up in 1998 stipulates how Catholic priests trained as exorcists should operate. According to the guidelines established by the church, they have to follow a ritual known as "De exorcismis et supplicationibus quibusdam," or "Of exorcisms and certain supplications."

Amorth was also an outspoken critic of yoga and Harry Potter books and dismissed them as ungodly hobbies.

And now he is meeting them for the second time, methinks! If God wanted that demon inside of that person, why would anyone try to remove it?

Funny that he thought stooping to criticize children's books was a good use of his time. He must have taken his calling as seriously as I take it (that is to say, not very).

when talking about things like demons or whatnot, that so very few believers ACTUALLY believe that stuff. That it's unfair to characterize religious belief based on such a tiny minority.

And then you've got the single largest Christian sect on the planet still believing and endorsing this stuff in the 21st century. Yeah, sure, just a tiny minority.

I have to believe that any grown-up professing to believe in such obvious bullshit is a liar.

he found yoga and Harry Potter ungodly but failed to mention his pedophile compatriots?

I find it hard to believe that it's 2016 sometimes when I read nonsense like this, except people die from this nonsense so it is indeed a serious business.
