Catholic Church says civil unions in Italy is ‘creeping fascism’

http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2016/05/12/catholic-church-says-civil-unions-in-italy-is-creeping-fascism/

Yesterday, Italy’s Parliament finally passed a bill creating same-sex civil unions, in the face of strong opposition from the powerful Catholic church and rebellions from Catholic lawmakers.

The law – which came about after the European Court of Human Rights upheld complaints of discrimination over the country’s lack of recognition for same-sex couples – was passed by votes of 369-193 and 372-51 – as Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi called a confidence vote in himself to force the issue through.

Italy was the last country in Western Europe with no recognition for same-sex partnerships. The change only passed after Renzi made concessions, ditching proposals for same-sex adoption rights that were opposed by the church. The unions are also strictly civil – and same-sex religious unions remain banned, even for pro-LGBT denominations.

However, despite the government going out of its way to appease the Catholic Church, the Catholic Church in Italy has attacked the decision.

It's always been a mainstay of fascism to extend equal rights to maligned minorities. Who can forget Hitler's horrific support of miscegenation and Mussolini's infamous push for slavery reparations?

There was no legal same sex marriage anywhere on earth until April 1, 2001.
In Holland.
In the 21st century.
is a false statement. Which pretty much makes it wrong.

It is the abrahamic religions which pushed same sex unions out of the scene. Same sex unions were performed by village elders in India (pre Raj), and the names of Pan Zhang & Wang Zhongxian were famous in China with no condemnation attached. Not to mention the official same sex marriages in Mesopotamia, Egypt, Rome, ..

Your statement was false, probably because you espouse religion so much you refuse to see how oppressive it has been for centuries (and remain oppressive, like Catholicism in Africa and Islam pretty much everywhere).

Seeing the Italian Catholic hierarchy call same sex civil partnerships fascism was hilarious,
especially in light of the fact the Roman Catholic Church was for a long time in bed with Mussolini.

How could anyone pretend to know the date of all same sex marriages prior to April 1, 2001?

The fact is there were many same sex marriages in lots of places and times.

So your statement in post #3 was false, a fact you appear to have difficulty acknowledging.

You falsely claimed same sex marriages are a recent invention.
This probably based on your feeling religions must have been right in some measure.

Then you ask obviously unanswerable questions about dates: what's your point?
Then "You didn't say purport. And yo didn't say what it is.": what's your point?
Generally speaking, you post threads of religious trivia: what's your point?
