State Department’s Point Person on Religious Affairs at Washington University

“What’s religion got to do with foreign policy?” That’s the question to be addressed Monday afternoon at Washington University in St. Louis, and the speaker, Shaun Casey, is in a position to know. He is the senior official addressing religious affairs at the Department of State—and just completed a tour of five refugee resettlement centers across the United States. Six of the nine partners operating those centers are faith-based organizations—groups like Catholic Charities, HIAS and Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services.

Casey is speaking at Washington University on Monday April 25, at 6 pm in the Women’s Building Formal Lounge. Admission is free and the talk will be preceded by a reception beginning at 5 pm. Casey is a graduate of Harvard Divinity School with a Master of Divinity Degree and a Doctor of Theology in Religion and Society. He also earned a Master of Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University with a concentration in International Security. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Abilene Christian University. He is a member of the American Academy of Religion and served as chair of its Committee on the Public Understanding of Religion. He was a visiting scholar at the Center for American Progress and a subject matter expert in religion at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

He and justice Scalia often published in the "conservatve" right wing journal First Things.

Have the State Department and the Supreme Court been favoring one religion above all others? Probably.
