State Department’s Point Person on Religious Affairs at Washington University

Published April 24, 2016
JEFF BARRUS

“What’s religion got to do with foreign policy?” That’s the question to be addressed Monday afternoon at Washington University in St. Louis, and the speaker, Shaun Casey, is in a position to know. He is the senior official addressing religious affairs at the Department of State—and just completed a tour of five refugee resettlement centers across the United States. Six of the nine partners operating those centers are faith-based organizations—groups like Catholic Charities, HIAS and Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services.

Casey is speaking at Washington University on Monday April 25, at 6 pm in the Women’s Building Formal Lounge. Admission is free and the talk will be preceded by a reception beginning at 5 pm. Click here for additional information and registration. The talk is part of a daylong symposium on religion and public policy co-sponsored by the Pulitzer Center and Washington University.

Casey is a graduate of Harvard Divinity School with a Master of Divinity Degree and a Doctor of Theology in Religion and Society. He also earned a Master of Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University with a concentration in International Security. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Abilene Christian University. He is a member of the American Academy of Religion and served as chair of its Committee on the Public Understanding of Religion. He was a visiting scholar at the Center for American Progress and a subject matter expert in religion at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

... plant in the Catholic Church. He worked for the State department before becoming the leading right wing's alleged spokesman for the Church in America.

He and justice Scalia often published in the "conservatve" right wing journal First Things.

Have the State Department and the Supreme Court been favoring one religion above all others? Probably.
