I would go a step further: Many people have no problem using religion to discriminate against people right in front of them. Being a jerk in the name of Jesus beats kindness and compassion, I guess.

There’s no time to be nice when the stakes are so high, what with letting someone use the proper restroom or serving them a cake. Jesus died so a Christian florist could refuse to set up flowers at a gay wedding.
