A Charlotte minister asks former mayor: Why now, Gov. McCrory?

Rev. James C. (Jay) Leach, Senior Minister of Unitarian Universalist Church of Charlotte
MARCH 24, 2016 8:08 AM

For twenty years .. McCrory had a role in how .. Charlotte operated. As a member of our City Council and then as mayor, McCrory had the opportunity over .. two full decades to raise concerns about actions our city had taken ... Year after year, while McCrory sat in a seat of leadership there were ordinances .. prohibiting discrimination ... Dan Bishop previously occupied a seat on Mecklenburg’s County Commission ... The entire time .. Mecklenburg County had ordinances .. expressing concerns about discrimination ... However, when our City Council approved an ordinance .. that is already in place in Myrtle Beach and Orlando .. they seemingly suddenly discovered “overreach” ... Bishop insisted on calling .. government into emergency session. There he presented his hastily-crafted bill, one kept from .. colleagues until moments before the vote ... General Assembly approved a bill declaring that .. all .. cities and counties are .. prohibited from expressing opposition to discrimination of any kind. And, in the dark of night, now-Governor McCrory signed this .. into state law ... Charlotte would welcome some explanation ...

He is not fundie enough for Eastern NC, and he just threw away his home base of support with this action. I guarantee this will get overturned upon legal challenge or he will do a Mike Pence and pass another bill that rights this wrong.

polluted from his former corporations he ran, he's a bigot, he has no principles, and lastly he is a stooge for the right wing and his party to violate the 14th Amendment and anything that says everyone on this planet should be equal.

Lets not forget this law goes beyond LGBT community, this goes after wages, everything in the state.
