http://www.religionnews.com/2016/02/17/australian-clergy-sex-abuse-vatican-pell/Catholic Cardinal George Pell, a man once seen as a contender to become pope, had been scheduled to testify at the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in the Australian city of Ballarat.
...
The inquiry heard testimony last year that priests suspected of abuse in Pells former diocese were moved between parishes and put in church-appointed rehabilitation instead of being reported to police.
The survivors of Ballarat and District child abuse feel that a face-to-face hearing is important for healing and understanding said the groups crowd funding page.
This story is strange, because I have recently been told that church officials are *required* to report abuse cases to local authorities. George Pell failed to do this, and not only does he remain unpunished, he holds a prominent position at the Vatican. Something doesn't add up!

(49,533 posts)The claim here is that your church has yet to subject Pell and Law to any punishment for failing to report child abuse to the authorities (and protecting the priests who were doing it).
Do you dispute the claim?

(33,982 posts)After all, there's a rule about personal identities, and the disclosure thereof on DU. Confirmation of a donation and the amount, would significantly narrow the range of personal identities in that list.
Do not post or link to any private/personal information about any person, even if it is publicly available elsewhere on the Internet.
Try reading the rules sometime.

(22,340 posts)that goes toward these two criminals? Do you support them? Should they still be free?

(22,340 posts)I think it then becomes fair game to question yours.
Your church is protecting these two. They are paying for them. Do you support that? Should they still be free? Should they have been given a position specifically in a place where the American justice system can't touch them?
rug
(82,333 posts)I suppose I should not have assumed sincerity in the effort.
To answer your questions, they should be publicly castrated and their testicles hung over the main altar at St. Peter's. Happy?
trotsky
(49,533 posts)Chill.
How about we start with those men being kicked out of the Vatican to face secular authorities in their home countries?
Would you be OK with that?
