In poor, violent enclave of ´Saint Death´, Pope slams Mexico´s rich

ECATEPEC, MEXICO | BY PHILIP PULLELLA AND ALEXANDRA ALPER

Celebrating Mass for more than 300,000 people in one of Mexico´s poorest and most dangerous cities, Pope Francis on Sunday took a swipe at the country's rich and corrupt elite .

Decrying "a society of the few and for the few", he denounced deep inequality and the vanity and pride of those who consider themselves a cut above the rest.

"That wealth which tastes of pain, bitterness and suffering. This is the bread that a corrupt family or society gives its own children," the pope said at the Mass in the city of Ecatepec.

Francis urged his listeners to struggle to make Mexico "a land of opportunities where there will be no need to emigrate in order to dream" and where drug traffickers, whom he called "dealers of death", would not ensnare their children.

3. Pity he won't do a very simple thing to help fight poverty.

Namely, remove his church's restrictions on reproductive freedom. Totally within his power, but he won't. Why?

But I don't think that post had the slightest interest in Zika but a great interest in the RCC.

Instead of attaking those that point by this out, use all that anger and hostility to reform your church. Or is that against your beliefs?

the Zika virus appears to be a serious and significant threat to the health and development of thousands of children.

Even if, despite the growing evidence, the birth defects are NOT due to the virus, isn't it better to be safe than sorry? Isn't the advice to avoid pregnancy, if possible, a good thing?

6. Just that one simple change in doctrine would change so many lives for the better.

Instead we get apologists defending any attempt to improve peoples' lives as being 'reflexive'.

And the Church excels in dubious, duplicitous, and secretive bookkeeping. So yeah. Plenty of books on this if you care.

But you don't.

I didn't ask for rhetoric and I didn't ask for the sixteenth century.

The figures are out there. Get them.

Probably for some typo, or minutiae that is irrelevant to the point. Like geico, it's what you do.

Maybe they're only one hide away from going on their third unscheduled vacation and want to try and do as much harm to others as they can before it happens.
