A UCC reverend files a complaint with the IRS about a Catholic bishop's anti-Obama political speech

The Rev. Barry Lynn, head of Americans United for the Separation of Church and State.

The RCC bishop is a real piece of work.

PEORIA, Ill. -- An Illinois Roman Catholic diocese whose bishop compared President Barack Obama's health care policies to actions taken by Adolf Hitler said Thursday that the comments, which prompted outside demands for an apology and investigation, were "historical context" in an ongoing debate over religious liberty.

Peoria Bishop Daniel Jenky said during a Sunday homily at St. Mary's Cathedral in Peoria that Obama is following previous governments that "tried to force Christians to huddle and hide only within the confines of their churches."

"Hitler and Stalin, at their better moments, would just barely tolerate some churches remaining open, but would not tolerate any competition with the state in education, social services and health care," the (Peoria) Journal Star and Chicago Tribune quoted Jenky as saying during the homily. "In clear violation of our First Amendment rights, Barack Obama – with his radical, pro-abortion and extreme secularist agenda – now seems intent on following a similar path."

Americans United for Separation of Church and State, meanwhile, filed a formal complaint asking the Internal Revenue Service to investigate the diocese, suggesting Jenky may have crossed a line that put the church's tax-exempt status in jeopardy.

While not advocating for another candidate, this would appear to be advocating for the defeat of Obama - that's a no-no, isn't it?

I guess it really does boil down to sex - no sex, bad sex, procreative-only sex, sex with prostitutes, sex on the down-low. The Republicans and other RWers, for many reasons, are ashamed of sex and sexuality, especially their own.

Americans United continues to soldier on fighting these blatantly partisan pronouncements by churches.

Tax them! If they want to be partisan, they lose their tax exempt status. There should be no exceptions.

United Church of Christ = Congregational Church

My family attended for the first 13 years of my life. Then my parents said they didn't want to go to church any longer, but they would take my sisters am I if we still wanted to attend. Funny thing is, none of wanted to. We were all atheists and nobody had said anything to anybody about it. My father had even once been the president of the deacons.
