Has the Bible become the Religious Right's colden calf?

The Bible, the Bible, the Bible! It's so important! And it's full of rules that support my point! Well... supposedly. I've never read the whole thing... or live by all of the rules... But that's not the point! The point is that I have a Bible and that makes ME qualified to tell other people what God wants!

I have come to the conclusion that some extremist Christians no longer regard the Bible as the Word of God. Instead it has become an idol to dance around, an idol to parade around to show your fervent belief, an idol to shove into the faces of others to show your superiority.

It doesn't matter what the Bible says or not says. The important thing is that worshipping "The Bible (TM)" instantly makes you morally superior and you are instantly qualified to announce God's opinion on an issue.

No need to follow the Bible!
Just tell people how much you love the product "The Bible (TM)" and your place in heaven is GUARANTEED!
