As we reported, local Kentucky official Casey Davis said in a radio interview earlier this week that he will defy a court order to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples even if it takes my life.
The Casey County clerk also told West Virginia radio host Tom Roten on Monday that he believes that, as a Christian, he should be exempt from performing such job duties because his religion requires him to not only oppose same-sex marriage but also to tell gay people that they are going to Hell unless they repent and get washed in the blood of Jesus Christ.
When you stand for whats right and when you tell someone of the danger that they are in, and I think that when a person lives a lifestyle of sin whether it is homosexuality or drunkenness or drug addiction or adultery or thievery or any kind of sin that you continue in or live in, you are endangering yourself of spending eternity in Hell, Davis said. So in my view of what the Bible says, when youre truly loving someone, you stand and you lovingly tell them, This is not the way to Heaven, this is not the way of right.
Davis continued to claim that he is the victim of religious persecution: I think that this is a war on Christianity, I think same-sex marriage just simply brought it to the surface, but it is a war on Christianity.

Surely THIS has something to do with his religion, right?

This religious belief seems no more absurd to me than any other religious belief.

All religion is nonsense, some religious people are good people and can cause some good vibes, but the vast majority of it is bad
and of course none of it is real or true

(101,360 posts)As has been repeatedly pointed out, the Religion group is not just for religious people, and religion gets no more protection here than it does on DU in general. I suspect it's a juror who never actually reads this group, though.
Moral of the story: if you're on a jury for a post in any group, and you think that might make a difference, check the Statement of Purpose before assuming you understand.

(6,409 posts)We are waging a war on Christianity. Well, it's more a war on specific Christians, those who see themselves as appointed by God to condemn the rest of us and use the power of their public service positions not to serve the public, but to force the rest of us to conform to their religious code.
cleanhippie
(19,705 posts)There is no 'war' on anything. That is a manufactured crisis, fabricated by the very people that want to force their brand of religion on the rest of us.

Sure it's about religion...a hateful, arrogant aspect of religion. I don't believe in religion anymore. I believe in your decision to reject belief in the guy in the sky. I question my belief daily. I hate these people for turning my beliefs into a farce. To me. I know it's a farce to you

(101,360 posts)OP is about Casey Davis, clerk in Casey County, KY . Your link is about Kim Davis, clerk in Rowan County, KY.
And an update to that:
Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis has refused to issue any marriage licenses, citing her Christian faith and constitutional right to religious freedom, since the landmark decision in June.
On Thursday morning, a deputy clerk in her office refused to issue a marriage license to William Smith Jr. and James Yates. It was their third attempt to get a license.

You may do things differently in Britain.
muriel_volestrangler
(101,360 posts)Yeah, I'd hope that would be done differently from this in Britain.
But a deputy clerk in Davis' office told Smith and Yates on Thursday that the office believes Bunning's delay remains in effect until Aug. 31. He refused to give his name or give them a license.
The anonymous deputy clerk is now refusing to understand what 'or' means. Because they're a bigot. As are the Davises, both of them. Religious bigots.

(82,333 posts)What's your beef, muriel? The clerk (any of them) is about to be fired or jailed for contempt.

(101,360 posts)I was pointing out that the clerk's office specifically involved in the court ruling is giving the finger to the courts. You posted a news story; I posted an update.

(48,181 posts)as we know, posting anything here that is negative about religion is "religion bashing bigotry". The fact that bigots are using religion to justify their bigotry should, it seems, never be discussed.
I guess when one is a vocal supporter of an overtly homophobic institution, these sorts of responses are the only available option.
