Kirk Lyons is a white supremacist lawyer who co-founded and serves as the "chief trial counsel" for the Southern Legal Resource Center (SLRC), which has effectively become the legal arm of the neo-Confederate movement. Billing itself as a defender against "heritage violations" — attacks on the culture and symbols of the Confederacy — the SLRC was formed in 1996 by Lyons and his brother-in-law Neill Payne, and it has handled a number of cases involving the Confederate battle flag. The pastor of Socastee Original Freewill Baptist Church, Darren Squires, wrote a letter to Gov. Nikki Haley requesting she sign an executive order making it legal for pastors to discriminate against LGBT people. His church is currently allowing LGBT membership out of fear of being sued ...
