Atheist Billboard In Tennessee Taken Down After Just 5 Days Up

https://www.opposingviews.com/i/religion/atheist-billboard-tennessee-taken-down-after-just-5-days

An atheist billboard in Knoxville, Tennessee was taken down after the billboard’s property owner criticized its contents, just five days into its 30-day lease in April.

The billboard, which read “Don’t Believe in God? You’re Not Alone,” was paid for by the Rationalists of East Tennessee, an atheist organization. It cost $1,800.

...

(R.E.T. president Larry) Rhoades told The Daily Beacon that news of the billboard’s removal did not come as a shock to him.

“We tried to be understanding to Lamar’s position that they’re in,” Rhoades said. “As an organization, we hope that we don’t have to tear it down again.”

The pastor of the Baptist church nearest the billboard was actually cool with it, which is a great sign. But hateful bigots won this particular battle.

Dude, I'm pretty sure he breaks into churches during baptisms, eats the baby, shits on the altar, and sets the place on fire. I mean, he's the most evil, horrible, nasty new atheist in the world and NO DIFFERENT than religious fundamentalists! The dude wears T-SHIRTS! He's out of control!

I mean, auto-correcting to a wrong (yet valid!) word I can understand, but when it just whiffs completely you're like "WTF?!?"

it wasn't Lamar, a national outdoor ad company, that took it down, It was the owners of the property Lamar leased for the billboard. The property owners do have some say in what is put up and at times oppose controversy.
It will be re-located, so really not as big a story.
