Incomplete Pass: Tim Tebow Says America Based on ‘One Nation Under God’

New York Jets backup quarterback Tim Tebow, already a polarizing figure, has given anyone who favors church-state separation reason to be uneasy about him.

On Easter Sunday, Tebow participated in a question-and-answer session at Celebration Church, a megachurch in Georgetown, Texas. News reports said 15,000 people attended the service at which Tebow spoke, and he said plenty of benign things, like “it’s ok to be outspoken about your faith.”

But one thing Tebow said is problematic from a church-state standpoint.

In response to an inquiry about what needs to change in America, he said, “First and foremost is what this country was based on: one nation under God. The more that we can get back to that [the better].”

I wonder which God he’s talking about.

And JUST when I had decided to look past his religious BS and see him as a pro football player. Fuck. That. Guy.

Some Christian sects place a great importance on proselytizing. I'd bet good money that Tebow's particular brand is one such sect

In fact, its the act of being willfully obtuse that IS the barrier to the civil, open, and honest communication that you (and you father, among others) continually say that you want.

as surveys posted on here have shown.

The liberal churches you and your father speak of are in the minority. But, if they are not, then why don't you do something about these guys because they have a lot of control if they are that small.

This just solidified it. Keep playing crappy football, Tebow. American politics would be better off without you.

Big difference.

Everyone seems to push their philosophy on others/preach to people about why their ideals get the best results.

America needs to do X/Y/Z to get on track (I see such things on a website I go to called DU).

I may not agree with his ideals, and I can assure you there are people here whose ideals I don't agree with either - just not sure why folks get upset when a football player talks about their ideals and not when others do (and again, if he is wanting laws passed based on religion, that's a different/separate issue).

and that only as red-scare paranoia panicked the knuckle-draggers into coming up with some form of loyalty-oath that separated us from the godless commies?

and he isn't a good QB, at all.

Jets teammates are going to get quickly sick of answering questions about a player who really won't add much in the way of winning games.
