Indiana Defines Stupidity as Religion

http://www.newyorker.com/humor/borowitz-report/indiana-defines-stupidity-as-religion

MARCH 26, 2015

BY ANDY BOROWITZ

INDIANAPOLIS (The Borowitz Report)—In a history-making decision, Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana has signed into law a bill that officially recognizes stupidity as a religion.

Pence said that he hoped the law would protect millions of state residents “who, like me, have been practicing this religion passionately for years.”

The bill would grant politicians like Pence the right to observe their faith freely, even if their practice of stupidity costs the state billions of dollars.

While Pence’s action drew the praise of stupid people across America, former Arizona Governor Jan Brewer was not among them. “Even I wasn’t dumb enough to sign a bill like that,” she said.

3. Is Pence pandering to secure the massive Religious voter block,

..for 2016? Is he expecting a VP spot?
I believe that is why Cruz is out preaching also.
Cruz isnt expecting to be the GOP choice but he, like Pence are boldly pushing for religious favoritism at this point, & in such a shocking bold way, as to grab the attention & secure a voter block.

I don't know the relationship of Jeb & Pence but I believe this stunt by Pence was done for a strategic reason. 2016.

Just trying to reason the stupidity beyond Borowitz satire.

There is definitely a bloc here, but I am extremely hopeful that it is small and dwindling.

I think anti-GLBT bigots have their backs up against the wall and anticipate that SCOTUS is going to shut this whole thing down. Indiana is not the only state pursuing a pre-emptive strike.

I hope it hurts them and hurts them bad.

You are correct as to political strategy, I am curious as to what Pence's personal gain is in all this.
Would he be a VP choice for Jeb?
Anyone aware of the relationship of Jeb & Pence?

going to ride it as far as he can.

It may have even been a difficult decision for him, I don't know, but he was persuaded.

To be honest, I know very little about him and had barely heard of him before yesterday.

..to have k own to expect some backlash. So to risk that, I feel there had to have been a much bigger prize than just to make the church people happy.
Why would he sell out the State of Indiana for a blessing from the gods.

I have heard of him, but just that he is solid Right Wing.
When i look at the map of Red states, the south & midwest are pretty solid.
Much of these red state voter blocks are KKKristian dominated & bigotry in any form is a god given, gun toten right.
I will see what I can find as to Bush/Pence associations.

From here on thru 2016 election, i consider every puzzling or shocking move the GOP makes is to secure their voting blocks.
Everyone else is easily thrown under the bus without thought nor remorse.
Its a cutthroat game and the stakes this time around are enormous.
And when the Bush Criminals are involved it will be dirty & perhaps deadly.

They seem to do this frequently without recognizing that this could really backfire.

What happens when someone uses this to discriminate against christians? What happens when the challenges to this start to mount and the legal fees become astronomical? What happens when some major players in Indiana leave or boycott the state?

In no way do I think he was driven by his religious beliefs. I think he was promised something, and a shot at the VP nomination may have been it.

..State of Indiana to clean up.
I watch the GOP move slowly & steadily, calculated, toward one single goal and the big trifecta is within sight.
However they reach it, whomever they need to step on, kick out of the way, or take down, they have an entire corrupt organization behind the scene to do just that.
Add to that whole ALEC Rovian group, their foreign interests, and the Supreme Court approval for unlimited & undisclosed funds, and this latest stunt by Pence becomes just another head of the big ugly Right Wing snake.
Pay attention to the movement behind the quiet appearance of Jeb Bush.
They do not intend to lose this election.

So they may be successful at times, but I'd rather not live with a heart of stone.

Not that the democrats are free of back room intrigue and some pretty nasty business, but i don't think it's nearly as sordid.

If only dems could stop stabbing each other in the back, something that this site often exemplifies, we might actually defeat them.

This success of election will come down to Unity. The GOP is far ahead on this matter. They demand it.
No one is undecided, unlike the Dem Party.
I also worry about voter suppression, in all its possible forms. Be certain that the GOP has this well in their operational radar.
