The debate over whether or not the Dalai Lama will reincarnate has reached a boiling point in China, as one of its prominent party officials recently told reporters that Decision-making power over the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama, and over the end or survival of this lineage, resides in the central government of China. The Dalai Lama recently said his spiritual lineage might end with him and that he might not reincarnate. This would upend plans by the Chinese government to pick a successor who would support its control of Tibet. The Chinese official, Zhu Weiqun, shrilly declared that the Dalai Lamas musings are in religious terms, this is a betrayal of the succession of Dalai Lamas in Tibetan Buddhism. The 14th Dalai Lama has taken an extremely frivolous and disrespectful attitude toward this issue.

(48,181 posts)I mean other than the usual insults, what are you going on about?
Here is what is happening: the Chinese government intends to appoint the next Dalai Lama so that they can use the office to better control the monasteries, the monks, and the unruly Tibetan people. The current Dalai Lama would like that to not happen and so is doing the only thing he can do from where he is: declare the office terminated. The Chinese Government intends to promote Tibetan Buddhism to bolster its authoritarian control. What this has to do with clubhouses, purity and other imaginings in your head is yet to be explained.
Now carry on.

(8,352 posts)I am sure all of the Lama's are having a great laugh at this.
The time for a Dalai Lama is passed. He admits it freely, and a new Tibetan government and Buddhism is emerging.

(8,352 posts)I suspect he will come back much like many of the older Lama's are starting to do now. They are now part of this age and time. I am working on a music project with an early 20's recognized Lama. He drives a baby blue Vespa, listens to Dubstep, and is doing an Ambient project with me where he is doing Tibetan chants over my electronic music. If Tenzin returns, it will be similar to this.
