Mardi Gras is a religious event. A person at a religious event shot people. We should be drawing conclusions right fucking now. Please proceed.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) One person was killed and another wounded in a New Orleans shooting along a Mardi Gras parade route in uptown, police said.
Police spokesman Frank Robertson said there was an altercation around 10 p.m. Thursday during which a person produced a gun and shot two people.

(48,181 posts)It is the orgy before the fast. Are you disputing that mardi gras is a religious celebration?
Mardi Gras (/ˈmɑrdiɡrɑː/), also Fat Tuesday[1][2][3][4][5] in English, refers to events of the Carnival celebrations, beginning on or after the Epiphany or King's Day and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday", reflecting the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season.

(14,625 posts)I live in New Orleans. The carnival season lasts for several weeks, with the culmination being on the big day, Mardi Gras (or Fat Tuesday). There are about 50-60 parades in the Greater New Orleans area during the season, most in New Orleans proper, but with many others in outlying communities like Metairie, Gretna and Slidell.
If you aren't into parades, it kind of sucks. Even little things like grocery shopping and putting gas in the car have to be planned ahead to avoid the Mardi Gras madness. Major streets along the parade routes are shut down hours ahead of each krewe rolls. And then abruptly at midnight on Mardi Gras, it all ends and the sanitation crews are out in full force to dispose of tons of trash by about 6:00 am. It's quite amazing that they are able to accomplish this in a few hours.

(78,249 posts)Multiple shots were heard about 10 p.m. as the Krewe of Muses parade was in session, authorities said. A 21-year-old victim died at the hospital Thursday night after being shot in a chest, and a 22-year-old victim died at the hospital Friday, according to the New Orleans Police Department. The suspect, John Hicks, 19, was charged with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of using a firearm during a crime of violence on a parade route, police said.
Despite the violence, the parade continued as police officers set up barriers around the crime scene, NBC station WDSU reported.
