American Family Association Evangelist Bryan Fischer Has Been Fired, Maddow Reports
Maddow quoted AFA President Tim Wildmon as dismissing Fischer as just a talk show host who is no longer associated with the AFA. When asked specifically what bothered him about Fischer, he cited the soundbite quotes, you know, the Hitler and the homosexuality one we reject that.

(36,827 posts)One should think comparing the "gay agenda" to Nazism qualifies one as a shitbag looney, but evidently not always.
you can't fire Frank, and those who can are undoubtedly in complete agreement with him on this.
Good link.

(36,827 posts)However, Catholics most certainly can vote with their feet and as approval of the pope declines, many people do. So the pope can certainly choose to continue to promote hate and stay outside the mainstream and as he does so the hardliners will become harder, but the moderates and liberals that are closer to the mainstream are just going to stop showing up on Sunday as they have been for the last 30 years or so.

WILL GETTING RID OF BRYAN FISCHER GET RID OF THE AFAS PROBLEM?
Rachel Maddow broke the news last night that Bryan Fischer, the American Family Associations Director of Issue Analysis, has been fired, following media coverage and pressure from watchdog groups highlighting Fischers racist and homophobic views in advance of an AFA-funded trip to Israel for members of the Republican National Committee.
Debra Nussbaum Cohen reports in Haaretz that following news of the Israel trip, the Southern Poverty Law Center highlighted AFAs extensive track record of bigotry and hate, and urged RNC members to boycott the trip. (None have.)
Our issue is not with these folks going to Israel, which is an important ally and important for international policy, Heidi Beirich, director of the SPLCs Intelligence Project told Cohen. Our issue is that one of our mainstream political parties and a group with these heinous beliefs is sponsoring it.
The trip is being led by long-time evangelical operative David Lane, who is also organizing a domestic effort to recruit 1,000 pastors to run for political office. Lane is also behind the AFA-sponsored prayer rallies The Response, first hosted by former Texas Governor Rick Perry in 2011, and most recently by Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal last weekend.
