Bah, humbug!
A passenger was tossed off a plane at La Guardia Airport on Tuesday after flipping out because airline workers wished him a merry Christmas.
The man was waiting to board American Airlines Flight 1140 to Dallas when a cheerful gate agent began welcoming everyone with the Yuletide greeting while checking boarding passes.
The grumpy passenger, who appeared to be traveling alone, barked at the woman, You shouldnt say that because not everyone celebrates Christmas.

(38,613 posts)I don't celebrate Christmas either, but I rarely turn down an offer of merriness.

(41,212 posts)Unfortunately, the Festive Season tends to be stressful for too many people and can result in bad-temper rather than the desired 'goodwill'. And some people are always irritable when travelling at any time. Not an excuse, of course! It doesn't make it any better for those who have to deal with their bad behaviour.
But I suspect that for people who are going through bad times, it's often the 'Merry' rather than the 'Christmas' that gets on their nerves - i.e. not so much the religious issue, even if they bring it up, as the expectation of jollity at a time when they feel anything but jolly.

(75,480 posts)as a religious holiday? I have known many a non-Christian immigrant, who have settled into having Christmas trees, family dinners and exchanging presents.

(15,390 posts)...which still hasn't stopped me, on more than one occasion, from stupidly saying "You too!" in response to birthday greetings.

(12,778 posts)Whatever happened to just saying "you too"? It's noncommittal and causes no hard feelings.
Thank you, but I don't celebrate Christmas.
Would have been more polite and probably make the attendant a little embarressed anr think about it more than being an ass like he did.

(33,645 posts)And would not want to be wished as Merry one, then what I said might make the attendent think about it.
Perhaps embarrassing is the wrong word. I just meant she might apologize instead of thinking the guys an ass.
I wonder why you think I am talking about myself and not just saying what would be a better tactic for the gent in the story?

(11,573 posts)How about because you not only suggested a response but show every sign of approving it?
And yeah, the guy would still be an ass. The attendants were probably instructed to say "Merry Christmas." If he were that bent out of shape, he should have complained to management.
I'll just slowly back away.
This is much more serious to you than to me.

(146,218 posts)his feelings about this to the flight attendant, if it were really that important to him.
But he apparently didn't go there and got out of hand pretty quickly.
The other passengers cheered when they took him off. That says something right there.

(2,536 posts)All the other have simply copied its wire. I have a feeling that the true problem was the guy was drunk, if this even happened.
