There seem to be thousands of blogs devoted to religion. Most of them promote some form or another of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, etcetera. Many are painfully earnest, meant to convert the wayward reader.

But the best blog on faith and spirituality may be one about a so-called ‘dead’ religion, Norse mythology.

At least that’s what the distinguished judges thought at this year’s 12th Annual Weblog Awards.
And you can see why they liked The Norse Mythology Blog, which reflects deep knowledge of this ancient religion, along with an affable spirit.

Prof. Karl E.H. Seigfried is a Norse mythologist & musician in Chicago. He is known to play a mean standup bass. But he also knows everything one would ever want to know about Thor, Odin, Frey, Loki, Frigg, Freya and countless more Norse gods, goddesses and mythological hangers-on.

Mythology? Such blatant bigotry! It's theology! This could be someone's deeply-held beliefs! Silent3 Mar 2012 #2

These people are trying to deny believers in the Norse gods their right to live as they choose to live!

How do they know the Norse gods are just myths!? What? Do they think they KNOW EVERYTHING!? No one knows one way or the other whether the Norse gods exist or not! You can't prove that they don't exist!!!

What intellectual bullying! What blind allegiance to the dominant paradigms of the oppressors! Where are this group's stalwart defenders of religious belief now?

And... and... quantum! Somehow, someway... quantum! Grrr!

Not that this should be necessary, but:

The image would be Tyr if I'm not mistaken, my own namesake.

I actually have a couple tattoos, both nordic tales illustrated, and my long term plan is to have a great many of them, each one representing a different tale of norse mythology.
